Seatbelts 🤝 HomeSafe™
Need we say more? Okay, yes we do. Consider this: seatbelts are the best invention since, well, automobiles. It takes about two seconds to buckle up and cut your risk of serious injury (including fatality) in half.
Those two seconds can save your life IF you take the time to use them. Like seatbelts, HomeSafe™ is a powerful tool to keep your pet safe, but it only works if you use it.
What Could Happen?
Hound dog’s gonna hound dog. Take Henry, for example – he’s got an acute sense of smell, and when it’s good sniffing conditions, he follows his nose. On a non-sanctioned adventure, Henry strayed a bit too far from home and found himself lost in a strange new world… a kilometre away.
Even that short distance from home can disorient Henry and present the opportunity for terrible things to happen: he’s confused and scared, responding to stressors or hazards, he could be hurt by a fast-moving car, or he gets picked up by animal control. Here, the best-case scenario is that Henry will end up in a shelter or in the care of a friendly neighbour and be safe until someone contacts his loving owner. If someone contacts his loving owner.
Worst case? *Shudder* Let’s not go there.
We have a better, nay, best-case scenario.
A kind community member spotted Henry and submitted a Found Pet report with DocuPet using the code on his tag. His owner quickly retrieved him, and soon after, he was snoozing in his bed and chasing rabbits in his dreams.
How Does HomeSafe™ Work?
You know your pet would do anything for you. Sure, they might chew up your slippers and wake you up in the middle of the night from loudly licking their paws, but they entertain you, protect you, they LOVE you.
They don’t only love you, they trust you. Part of that trust includes the promise that you will keep them safe (…and give them treats). Each DocuPet HomeSafe™ enabled tag includes a unique code linked to your pet’s comprehensive online profile. On that shiny good lookin’ tag’s exterior, you also have the choice to include your personal phone number or our 24/7 hotline number. If a good samaritan finds your little bundle of joy, they can easily look at their tag and quickly make a phone call, or search up the code, create a Found Pet Report, and, ideally, put your mind at ease in minutes.
The more info you put into your pet’s profile, the better the odds of getting them home — fast. Easily upload a current photo and include details so they are easily identifiable. We highly recommend that you include additional contacts to be reached in case you cannot be. In case you cannot get to your found pet right away, you may also add care instructions (e.g. feeding schedules, dietary notes, special handling traits). This way, no matter who finds your pet, they know exactly how to responsibly care for them while away from you.
When you report a pet lost, DocuPet gets to work finding your furry friend without delay. Our 24/7 dispatch team works around the clock to help locate and reunite your pet. On the flip side, if our dispatch team receives a Found Pet Report, they are referencing your pet’s profile and reaching out to you (or your alternate contacts if you can’t be reached) in order to make a swift reunion.
It’s Like a Seatbelt
You know that annoying, irritating, helpful ding, ding, ding, DING that reminds you to put your seatbelt on? Your pet doesn’t have that. They have lots of sounds in their repertoire, but they don’t ding. But just look at those eyes and BUCKLE UP. Metaphorically. (And literally, if you are, in fact, in a vehicle.)
Like a seatbelt, HomeSafe™ only works if you use it. Luckily, it’s just about as easy:
- Tag up! Make sure your pet is wearing their ID on their collar. With a huge selection of colourful and fun tags available, go ahead and show off their style and personality.
- Keep your pet’s profile up to date! If you change your phone number or address and don’t pop in the new information, HomeSafe™ can’t do its magic as effectively. Editing your profile is super simple; you can log in after you throw the drooly tennis ball and have it done before he gets back with an even droolier object that you must now touch with your bare hands.
One Mississippi… Two Mississippi. There! You’ve increased the odds of finding your pet quickly and safely — and of keeping them out of an already overcrowded shelter.
DocuPet has helped thousands of lost pets reunite with their owners. No one wants to think about their best friend getting lost — but if it happens, we’re there to help bring them home.
Remember, folks, buckle up, put the ID on (and keep it on), update your info as needed, and throw that nasty old ball one more time!
